did you ever stop to think for a second that since a man's household is referred to in the masculine form, that this is the reason why the 'purification' verse (33:33) switches to masculine?
There is a much simpler reason: the Prophet 
is included in that verse and thus the entire group (of his wives) becomes masculine.
